Flag with question mark

VILLAGE SPOTLIGHT
America 250/Scarsdale 325 Flag Design Contest

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the 325th anniversary of Scarsdale, the Village will be hosting a Flag Design Contest to mark the occasion. Residents of all ages are invited to create a unique design that celebrates these milestones and showcases our vibrant community. Flags should be representative of both our Village and our country, tying together local and national history. The winning design will be transformed into a physical flag that will be flown at Village Hall and other Village properties throughout 2026. Residents are encouraged to use their creativity and join us in commemorating these important anniversaries.

Entries must be received by March 20 at 5 p.m. Click here for complete details and here for the design submission form.

Please contact Assistant Village Manager Ruby Tower with any questions at rtower@scarsdale.gov.

Snow shovel

VILLAGE SPOTLIGHT
Snowstorm Aftermath and Reminders for Future Winter Weather

Between Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26, the region was hit with one of the bigger snowstorms in recent years, with around 12 inches of snow reported in Scarsdale. Department of Public Works crews were working throughout the storm plowing, salting and making the roads safe, while the aftermath of the storm included another pass to clean up Village roads and crews hauling snow piles out of the downtown area.

Residents and their contracted snow removal companies are reminded not to shovel any snow into the roads as it creates dangerous traffic conditions. Additionally, all vehicles should be cleaned of snow and ice—roof included. Snow and ice flying off cars is a major hazard for other drivers and pedestrians.

Businesses are reminded they are responsible to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of their storefronts.

Teen gambling

PUBLIC SAFETY
Scarsdale Action for Youth Shares Information About Teen Gambling

The Village of Scarsdale is sharing this message from Scarsdale Action for Youth (SAY), which works to promote the health and safety of local teens:

  • With the Super Bowl, March Madness, online gaming, and winter boredom, gambling opportunities are everywhere – often hidden in apps and games.
  • Teens who gamble are at higher risk for other addictions – they are 2x more likely to binge drink, 3x more likely to use illegal drugs, and 4x more likely than adults to develop a gambling addiction.
  • Warning signs to watch for include: having much more, or less, money than usual, borrowing money from family or friends, constant interest in sports odds, scores, or betting apps, amongst others.

SAY encourages parents to talk openly with their children about the risks of gambling and online betting, set limits on apps, games, and spending, and seek help early.

Visit https://www.sayscarsdale.org/gambling for more information.

SCOUTING SPOTLIGHT
Girl Scouts Honor MLK Jr. with Community Service Day

Deputy Mayor Dara Gruenberg and Deputy Village Manager Stephen Shallo were honored to attend the Scarsdale Edgemont Girl Scouts annual MLK Day celebration on Saturday, January 24. In 1956, Dr Martin Luther King, Jr., called the Girl Scouts “a force for desegregation.” To celebrate his achievements, the Scarsdale Edgemont Girl Scouts hold an annual community service event to honor MLK Jr. and his legacy. This event is an opportunity for reflection, service and learning. The Scouts gathered and learned about his life and legacy and participated in workshop stations where the girls worked on community projects, including making blankets for Project Linus, assembling snack bags for children and families at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, and making Valentine cards for children in the hospital. The Scouts also made a community art project to commemorate the day.
